The House of Veren Stambolyan

National Monument of Culture Built in the 1860 year. On the Eastern slope of Djambaz Tepe, at 15, Kiril Nektariev str., the imposing and richly decorated house of Veren Stamboljan stands. It was known as the House of Painters in the 70-es and 80-es of last century. The house was turned into a cultural hub and international cultural centre. Many outdoor art festivals, exhibitions and workshops have taken place here. The building occupies the inner yard area; its façade draws the attention with its elegant line and the light and shade effects of the ornaments. Since 2010 this house has hosted the permanent exhibition of the canvases of Dimitar Kirov. He belongs to the Plovdiv school of painters and is one of the most outstanding representatives of the Bulgarian fine art of the 60s and the 70s of the 20th century. His artistic heritage is notable with its innovative spirit, his creative achievements being in the realm of fine arts and of decorative and monumental art. The author is the winner of many national and international honours and awards. The exposition presents some of his masterpieces that illustrate different themes and stages of his art. A series of mosaics is displayed in the yard, related to the author’s “favourite cities”. We hope that every visitor will take away with him a spark of the spirit and creativity of Plovdiv.
